Stop Panic And Anxiety Attacks With Simple Treatments

by Joseph Salem

Panic attacks are a real phenomenon affecting many people in their daily lives, preventing them from carrying out everyday things most people take for granted, like public speaking or moving through crowds. What many people don't know is panic attacks can often be controlled through simple means, without visiting a doctor or other professional. Sometimes, however, a strong level of disorder can only be treated by professional means, like with a psychiatrist.

One rudimentary technique that has been shown to stop panic and anxiety attacks is to employ breathing techniques similar to those used in Lamaze or anger management classes. When using this simple process, the person having the anxiety attack uses a combination of breathing and counting to distract them from the stress that is causing the anxiety. This technique is simple enough to be used by anyone any time they are having an anxiety or panic attack.

This breathing method succeeds due to the fact that it causes the body to focus on something other than the cause of the anxiety. It also lets the body relax and lower the vital signs that increased as a result of the trauma. Many times the heart rate will shoot up during a panic attack and will reach a dangerous level that the heart cannot safely maintain. This can cause cardiac shock or arrest. Plus, the electrical rhythms of the brain can cause the nerves to go into overdrive and this occasionally results in a total body seizure.

If a person needs more severe treatments for panic attacks, they can be referred to a professional for treatment. Most anxiety disorder panic treatment is done via the use of medications that lower the body's anxiety level in stressful situations. The medications can be taken at the onset of a panic attack and utilized to ensure that quick treatment can be instilled in the body. The drugs usually kick in quickly and reach their full effects in a short period of time.

Sometimes medication isn't the answer to stop panic and anxiety attacks, and those in need of help must turn to psychological treatment. Once in treatment, a patient is psychoanalyzed to determine possible root psychological causes to their panic attacks. Once psychological causes have been identified, the psychiatrist provides counseling towards removing the negative association or fear the person may inwardly feel. Often this will mean developing alternative techniques for the patient to use if caught in a stressful situation, even to the point of total avoidance in extreme cases.

Panic attacks and other anxiety related disorders are natural conditions, not character flaws to be ashamed of. They are also becoming more easily managed thanks to modern prescribed treatments. Advances in medicine and psychology are providing opportunities to study these conditions and identify their neurological causes. Once these causes have been pinpointed, we can anticipate another revolution in treatment options. Until then, the treatments we've discussed remain the best options for treating panic disorder.

For most people, panic attacks are a major concern that exists in their day to day lives, and they affect their ability to complete the daily tasks that most of us take for granted. People can take measures to check their panic attacks often without consulting a professional. The simplest treatment that a person can employ to stop panic and anxiety attacks is to utilize the breathing techniques. For those who need more intense treatments for panic attacks, they can be sent for professional treatment. The majority of anxiety disorder panic treatment is done by medications that will decrease the anxiety level of your body during stressful times.
